Crohn's  and  Colitis  Foundation  of  america

Picture
The Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America is a non-profit, volunteer-driven organization dedicated to finding the cure for Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. It was founded in 1967 by Irwin M. and Suzanne Rosenthal, William D. and Shelby Modell, and Henry D. Janowitz, M.D. Four decades ago, the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation created the field of Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis research. Today, the Foundation funds cutting-edge studies at major medical institutions, nurtures investigators at the early stages of their careers, and finances underdeveloped areas of research. Educational workshops and symposia, together with our scientific journal, Inflammatory Bowel Diseases, enable medical professionals to keep pace with this rapidly growing field. No wonder the National Institutes of Health has commended the Foundation for "uniting the research community and strengthening IBD research."

the   fringemunks

Picture
The Fringemunks are a music group created by Seattle musician David Wu in 2008 consisting of three "cloned" anthropomorphic chipmunks: Feebo, Notchy and Pie. They are known mostly for recapping all episodes of the first three seasons of Fox television series Fringe with song parodies. The group is, in itself, a loose parody of Alvin and the Chipmunks. The voices of the group are all performed by Wu, who speeds up the playback of his voice to create higher-pitched voices. For their songs, Wu performs all of the instruments (heard in real-time) and writes the parody lyrics. The songs, bundled with a production hosted by Wu entitled The Fringemunk Show (which to date has only been produced once), can be played and freely downloaded from their website. The songs and shows are also available via a free podcast subscription on the iTunes Store, from Season 2 onward.

Gilda's  club  worldwide

Picture
Gilda's Club, named in tribute to the late comic actress Gilda Radner, who died of ovarian cancer in 1989, is a FREE community meeting place for patients, family and friends living with cancer. There are 22 open clubhouses and nine in development in North America. Gilda's Club was founded by Joanna Bull, (Gilda Radner's cancer psychotherapist during the time she had cancer;)  Radner's husband, Gene Wilder; and broadcaster Joel Siegel.  Radner's story can be read in her book, "It's Always Something." The organization takes its name from Radner's comment that cancer gave her "membership to an elite club I'd rather not belong to". The mission of Gilda's Club is to provide meeting places where men, women and children living with cancer along with their families and friends join with others to build emotional and social support as a supplement to medical care. Free of charge and nonprofit, Gilda's Club offers support and networking groups, lectures, workshops and social events in a non-residential, homelike setting.

Indie  Music  Reviews  -  GRAVY  and  BISCUITS.com

Picture
After being alive for over three years, Gravy and Biscuits finally found its home as an indie music e-zine.  The staff is a group of Southerners who love good music, from indie to bluegrass to electronic, and lots in between.  Review-wise, we aim to give both intimate and informative reviews without being pretentious.  Anybody can use a thesaurus, but we have Southern charm.
